Woman wakes up in body bag at funeral home after accidentally being declared dead

A Paraguayan woman had the shock of her life when she reportedly woke up in a body bag – after being declared dead.

Gladys Rodriguez de Duarte was presumed dead at a private clinic in Coronel Oviedo, Paraguay.

They were dead wrong.

In a scene straight out of a George Romero zombie movie, a Paraguay mother miraculously sprang back to life in a body bag after being pronounced dead by doctors earlier that day.

Gladys Rodríguez de Duarte, who suffers from ovarian cancer, had been admitted to San Fernando Clinic in Coronel Oviedo on Saturday morning after experiencing a severe spike in blood pressure, reports local newspaper ABC Color.

A mere two hours later, her treating physician, Dr. Heriberto Vera, mistakenly declared the 46-year-old woman dead of cervical cancer, and handed a death certificate to her husband and daughter.

She was then taken to a funeral home in a body bag and placed in the home’s morgue before staff noticed there was someone breathing and moving inside the bag.

Ms Duarte was immediately taken to a local medical facility for observation.

Another physician, Dr Catalino Fabio, told local media that Dr Vera had not been able to find Ms Duarte’s pulse.

“He tried to revive her, but it was unsuccessful,” he said.

He then wrote down ovarian cancer as the cause of death on her medical certificate.

Gladys’ husband Maximino Duarte Ferreira has reportedly filed a complaint against the doctor.

He claimed the medic no longer wanted to treat her, so decided to declare her dead.

Gladys is now undergoing treatment in intensive care in a hospital after first being taken from the morgue to the Institute of Social Security.

This isn’t the first time a patient has appeared to rise from the dead.

In 2015, Queens medics mistakenly declared a distraught woman deceased after she shot herself in the head — then flabbergasted cops discovered she was still alive and transported her to a hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her injuries.
